Dentures

About Us

Dentures are removable dental appliances used to replace missing teeth. At West 14 Dental in Saskatoon, denture options may be discussed for patients who have lost some or all of their natural teeth, based on individual assessment and oral health considerations. The type and design of dentures are determined based on clinical findings and patient needs.

Types of Dentures

Dentures typically consist of artificial teeth attached to a base designed to rest on the gums. The design and fit depend on the number of missing teeth and the structure of the mouth.

Two general categories of dentures may be discussed: complete dentures and partial dentures.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures may be considered when all natural teeth are missing in the upper or lower jaw.

Types of complete dentures that may be discussed include:

  • Conventional dentures, which are fabricated after healing has occurred following tooth removal

  • Immediate dentures, which may be placed at the time of tooth removal and adjusted over time

The suitability of each option depends on individual circumstances and treatment planning.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures may be considered when one or more natural teeth remain. Partial dentures typically consist of artificial teeth supported by a base and, in some cases, a framework that helps position the appliance.

Partial dentures are designed to replace missing teeth while accommodating remaining natural teeth.

Adjustment and Ongoing Use

Dentures may require a period of adjustment after placement. Sensations, fit, and function can vary between individuals and may change over time as oral structures adapt. Dentures may need periodic adjustment, relining, or replacement depending on changes in the mouth and the condition of the appliance. Recommendations related to care and follow-up are discussed based on individual needs.
